About myBookCrate

myBookCrate was first built in a small studio apartment in 2011. Erik Bogaard, student founder, was tired of paying top dollar for his textbooks only to receive pennies when he tried to resell them locally on campus. Whether it was the bookstore that offered to buy them or a middleman who drove all the way across the country, the offered buyback price was always extremely low. Middlemen have continued to thrive in this broken system because there has never been a local, safe and professional marketplace for students to do business with students.

myBookCrate is the only marketplace that instantly connects students in order to buy & sell their textbooks conveniently on campus. By removing the middleman (like the costly bookstore, or sketch people in the buyback vans) we all receive the fair market value for our books for the first time - which means more cash in our pockets, not in the pockets of those who profit off of students. In addition, myBookCrate is the only marketplace that facilitates electronic payment for in-person transactions and a line of communication between students without having to share any personal contact information.

When we all work together, we can remove the costly middleman and keep our money in our pockets. The cost of education has continued to increase dramatically and we are doing our part to help make education affordable. myBookCrate makes it easy for you to save money on your textbooks. By removing the middleman, students around the nation are no longer forced to accept ridiculously low returns on their used books. Built by a student, for students. It's free to join.
